Keec / Really Whale Bags at Life InStyle

February 6th, 2009

Some of my recently printed yardage will soon be traveling to Sydney (in the form of Keec Collab bags) for the Life InStyle Exhibition, which will be on from February 19th until the 23rd. Also featured will be some of the Keec bag and accessory range, and all at Keec’s very own stall.

If you’re in Sydney and or travelling to Life InStyle – stop by Stall 99 and have a chat with Keec’s owner, Ben.  I’m sure he’ll appreciate it.

Seventh Gallery Sell-Out Sale

December 15th, 2008

Yesterday I dropped a couple of Paper Whales at Seventh Gallery for the Seventh Sell-Out Sale. A $20 ticket allows you to take home an artwork of your choice, and a free drink!

The show is open for preview until the sale starts – Tuesday 16th of December, 6-8pm. Seventh Gallery is at 155 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy, here in Melbourne.  Hope to see you there.

Do Yeah Media – Yardage Print

December 15th, 2008

Hot off the press is Sixto’s new print, available in orange, grey and magenta – here’s a peek. He’s also got a brand new website, you can check it out here.

Do Yeah Media – Print Preview

December 1st, 2008

Here’s a small preview of the new Do Yeah Media print I have been working on.  I printed a couple of posters on left over art paper, which I hope to give to Sixto and a couple of other co-conspirators.  In addition to Sixto from Do Yeah, I’d like to thank Jem and Laura from Like Butter for my new screen frames, Micky and Ol’ Greg.  It is Micky’s heavy set frame which features in the print you see below.

This will be my second yardage print, it’s also great example of Sixto’s illustration style.  Who can go past a print featuring blood-thirsty vampires in business attire?  An interesting aspect of the print is that the individual vampires although repeated often in the design, appear random when viewed from further away due to subtle variations in the tile pattern.

Final colours for the fabric print are still being decided, and once printed will feature on some new Ke:ec hOP-scotch bags, complimenting patterns already available in the range – including two very beautiful variations from Orchis Morio, and my own Ocean Print, posted here earlier.

General Pants Co. – The Bubble

November 30th, 2008

General Pants Co. has started an initiative they call The Bubble, which they will use to promote talented young artists like you and me to a broader public audience.  The concept is that viewers online are able to vote for designs they like, the most popular being promoted by General Pants either in the form of in-store commissions or promotion in magazines such as Monster Children.

Ben Maxwell of Ke:ec fame has submitted the bag he and I worked on a short while ago, for review.

So.. If you have a spare moment, help him out and cast a vote.  Any extra press for Ben and in a secondary, piggy-back-of-others-fame kind of way – myself would be greatly appreciated and showing your support would mean a lot.  Thanks!

hOP-Scotch Prints and BFF Caps

November 23rd, 2008

I thought I’d write with an update on what’s going on here at RW. I’m working on a second yardage print with Sixto from Do Yeah Media, which will be printed in the coming weeks. I’ve just picked up the transparencies and they look awesome. I can’t show you too much yet, as it’s his design and I don’t wish to ruin the surprise.

A few weeks ago I mentioned my first yardage project – Ocean Print. Bags featuring the design are manufactured here in Melbourne by Ke:ec, and are available online at the Bamakko Bigcartel. Have a look at some of the other things he’s been working on, or check out the bags themselves below.

Really Whale / Ke:ec Collab Bag – Small, Really Whale / Ke:ec Collab Bag - Medium, Really Whale / Ke:ec Collab Bag – Large

Sixto’s print is also going to be available as a feature panel on Ke:ec bags, I’m sure you’ll be able to pick up one of these in the not too distant future.

Lastly, the Bicycle Film Festival was in town these last few days – One of my drawings featured on the Melbourne BFF 2008 cycling caps, stoked! I wasn’t able to get to any of the events this year – but if it was as good as last year’s, I’m sure an awesome time was had by all.  It’s certainly good to see so many bikes around Melbourne this time of year.
